Little Gopher

On November 16th (that's how behind I am- sheesh!) we took Lila to her first sporting event, a gopher basketball game at the barn. I was concerned that the noise would be too much, but we called the baby nurse line (developed for paranoid first timers, I'm sure) and they assured us it was no problem. In fact his exact response was, "Oh, who's playing?" and all I could think was, "how is that relevant? Do they actually have a chart of teams and how the fan base would respond to each?" (Nope- just a fan. Obviously. Less obvious when you're worried about breaking your perfect child...)

Anyway, all three of us had a great time. Nothing like a basketball game, though, to remind you of the differences between a mommy and a daddy. Our seats were up in the upper balcony where, rather than individual seats, there are long benches with numbers painted on them. There's a constant reshuffling that happens whenever someone comes or goes- the numbers are painted pretty tight. So, we're kind of in the proverbial cheap seats when Goldy himself comes up to our section with some mini-basketballs. We watched him throw balls into the crowd one section over. People were yelling and jumping. (We nose- bleeders are easily roused.) I immediately worried that someone would jump for a ball and crush our child. So, I turned to my husband, our protector, and said, "Sean!" and gestured to the mayhem. Sean nodded immediately and I was relieved to see he was on top of it.

Or so I thought.

He waves his arms wildly and yells "Over Here! Over Here!" Yep. That's right. He thought I saw the mini-basketballs and thought, "We must have one..." Luckily all of the guys around us thought the same thing and were calling to Goldy to give the baby and his pushy mother a basketball, so no one jumped or jostled our Lila. Here are some photos...

Safe and sound with Goldy...

and the basketball we just had to have!
