Remember when I announced I was aiming to have this thing current by the end of February? It's almost as funny as my list of things I would get done during my year long sabbatical. You know- during my year "off." So, to be clear, not only is the blog suffering, but I do not yet play the guitar by ear, speak perfect Spanish or have a collection of essays in the works. Yikes.
That said, I really do want to get back on track. We have a really neat kid. She's passionate and opinionated and she's got a quirky sense of humor. For instance, we were driving the other day and Lorelei was in a rage. (She finds carseat laws paternalistic and oppressive, apparently.) Anyway, we turned down a particularly neglected stretch of road- you know the kind, just littered with pot holes- and Lorelei stops her tantruming and says "ahhhhhh." All the jostling made her sound like Tarzan which in turn made her giggle. See? I love that about her. Yes, she can go from zero to sixty with almost no notice. (Note: If you let her hold your keys, you may as well give her the car. Really. It's just not worth the grief to get them back.) But she can also downshift when she sees something funny or silly or joyful and just revel in the moment. That's pretty cool.
It's such a great ride- we want to remember it. So, we're resolving to do better.
